Exporting Thermex machines

Thermex is a thermomechanical process used as an in-line operation in rolling mills. This process, also known as self-tempering, strengthens construction rebars to a minimum yield strength of 500 MPa. In the current study, instead of designing and manufacturing an integrated Thermex machine, a cooling system called “cooler” was utilized. The cooler consists of a main body and a movable nozzle.
Metal passes through the nozzles, water enters from under the cooler body, and a spray is created over the metal surface at the gap between the flange mouth and the movable nozzle. This research examined the effects of water pressure parameters, metal diameter, and rebar surface in four stages of laboratory tests. Research results were presented based on four rebar samples with diameters of 14, 16, and 18 millimeters.
In the third stage of the tensile test, by altering the water pressure parameter through adjustment of the gap via the movable nozzle, the yield stress of the 16 Thermex rebar increased compared to the non-integrated Thermex machine. This demonstrated the potential to enhance yield stress and ultimate tensile strength of the metal by varying water pressure. Additionally, with an increase in metal diameter, assuming constant parameters of metal speed and water pressure, the strength and yield stress of the rebar will decrease.
